Visit to China: irritation with Gabriel’s Beijing visit – TIME ONLINE

The visit to China by German Economics Minister Sigmar Gabriel (SPD) has started to irritation. Actually, he wanted to occur after a conversation with the Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng together with him at a meeting of the joint economic Committee. The appointment, however, was cancelled.

Officially, it was said, that the conversation of the two Ministers have taken too long. According to information from the German press Agency, the Chinese side decided, however, that the appearance should not take place. From the German participants of circles, it was said to have been the subjects of steel, the market economy status, as well as the equal treatment of German and Chinese companies appear to be topics of conversation.

Secretary of state Matthias Machnig said it was not an insult. The two Ministers had a “good and intensive exchange of views”. He pointed out that Gabriel will receive on Tuesday afternoon (local time) from Premier Li Keqiang. “That’s the Key.”

Gabriel even said something later to the cancellation. This he himself has suggested, the Minister said during a visit to the Museum. Because a conversation with Gao, it took a very long time, he want to the following appointment with Prime Minister Li Keqiang not to compromise. The German economy had not been “shown the cold shoulder”. “We have a very long talk about what conditions need to find German companies in China,” said Gabriel. “We do not expect that the investment conditions in China are more restrictive.”

Gabriel acknowledged, however, that the conflict issues were raised. “We have made it to clarity, not lack of it – on both sides,” he said. So there is on the German side, great concern about Chinese steel shipments at dumping prices and on disabilities for the market access of German companies. The question of whether, from the Chinese side the issue of Aixtron was addressed, answered Gabriel with “no”.

Gabriel’s journey had stopped the Ministry of economy, the Adoption of the Chip-manufacturer Aixtron by Chinese investors, and greater protection for key technologies required. The unfair conditions of competition for German companies in China had criticized the Minister.

The has taken care in China, apparently for annoyance. The Chinese Vice Minister Gao Yan, representative of the Minister of Commerce before the Committee on economic and apologized at the start of the session with no word on the tips of the German economy for the absence of Hucheng. In her opening speech, she lamented an “investment sentiment” in Germany.

the beginning of October, also Gabriel’s visit to Iran was ended with a scandal. Unlike his first visit in July 2015, there had been no Meeting with President Hassan Rouhani or foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. Then, surprisingly, a conversation with the President of Parliament Ali Larijani had been cancelled.
