Mail and parcel delivery Deutsche Post strike – Reuters Germany


       

Dusseldorf (Reuters) – In the wage dispute with Deutsche Post aims to increase the trade union Verdi on Friday with strikes in several states the pressure on management.


       

Alone in North Rhine-Westphalia were more than 1000 letter and parcel delivery staff called for a one-day strike. In Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland walkouts were planned. “A lot of letters and parcels will not reach their recipients,” the Verdi-department head for postal services in NRW, Uwe Speck Wirth. “We know that the strikes have full effect.”


       

Verdi calls shorter working hours and significantly more money for the 140,000 public employees of the Group. All previous offers the Post has rejected the union. The wages should be raised at will with a maturity of twelve months by 5.5 percent. Verdi also calls for a reduction of weekly working hours to 36 from 38.5 hours at full pay. The negotiations with the Post will be continued on 20 and 21 May in Koenigswinter near Bonn.
