The Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton holds the license issued by the US government approval of exploratory drilling of the oil company Shell off the coast of Alaska irresponsible “The Arctic is a unique treasure” wrote the former Foreign Minister on Twitter. “We can not take the risk of holes.” Clinton goes so distanced himself from US President Barack Obama, whose government had given the final green light for the exploratory drilling.
The decision was harshly criticized by environmentalists. They reject holes from for fossil fuels in the Arctic, as they fear negative consequences for wildlife at the North Pole.
Shell had already begun in July with the drilling, however, the US authorities banned the group initially to penetrate deeper oil-bearing layers under the sea because lacked a ship that the emergency wellbore could close in order to prevent an oil spill. With the arrival of this ship, the requirements for one of the shafts were now canceled.
Hillary Clinton is regarded by the US as a favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination. It supports Obama’s climate change objectives. Observers expect that they will raise their profile with its environmental policy statement. For the equally controversial construction of the oil pipeline Keystone XL Clinton was referring previously ambiguous position. Keystone XL is lead by the Canadian province of Alberta, which has one of the largest tar sand deposits in the world, about 1,900 kilometers to the refineries in the US state of Texas. Environmentalists warn of disastrous consequences of possible leaks. Obama had vetoed against the Keystone-law in February.
