There are images that are difficult to reconcile with what happened in Frankfurt on Wednesday morning. On the Flößerbrücke protesters block the roads, but they joke and laugh with the police.
There is a relaxed atmosphere, colorful rouged street performers balancing on stilts, clowns paint slogans on the street. An activist plays piano at all, and there’s a carnival atmosphere.
But only a few hours ago there was here a state of emergency. Barricades were burning, firefighters were attacked and paving stones gepuhlt from the street to throw at police officers. Even police cars were on fire. The police themselves responded with water cannons. But how could it come to this, how could escalate the protest so much?
The police itself was obviously surprised by the protest. Was calculated rather to the fact that there is a large throng forms and this extends to the ECB and fragmenting from then on. But it turned out quite differently. The organization, particularly the international demonstrators was excellent: They divided into so-called five fingers on all wanting to run to the ECB. Each finger had a different color.
