After a turning maneuver on the Elbe towed tug the 395 meter long “MSC Zoe” in the Waltershof harbor, where they at the container terminal of Euro Gate moored. In perfect summer weather, hundreds of onlookers watched the arrival of the ship at the same or went against the freighter on barges and boats. Upon arrival the ship horns played the melody of the film “Star Wars”.
The “MSC Zoe” is the third in a series of 20 ships with a capacity of 19,224 standard containers (TEU), which on the be built Korean Daewoo shipyard for the shipping company MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company). The container ship had recently applied on its maiden voyage from Asia in Antwerp. It leads the Panamanian flag and will in future be used between Asia and Europe. In Hamburg 4800 containers should be handled.
On Sunday the freighter of the four-year Zoe Vago is baptized on their behalf. She is a granddaughter of Gianluigi Aponte, founder and CEO of the group MSC. The first two ships of the Olympic-class bear the names of two other Aponte-grandson, Oscar and Oliver. The fourth grandchild Maya does not have a ship with its own name.
