(repeat)

VW wants to implement its austerity program including on fewer models and optional extras. In addition, the Group intends to increase productivity, “Maybe we’ll use fewer temporary workers”, said CEO Martin Winterkorn said in an interview with the news magazine “the mirror”. Permanent staff will not degrade: The goal is to build more cars with the same team. “We have over the productivity of core competitors still catching potential,” so the Volkswagen boss.

In the models, the convertible “Eos” is under scrutiny. “It is not every model get a successor,” the VW chief. Among the extras he said Volkswagen would offer no more extras which are installed in less than five percent of the cars.

In future, the VW group no longer wants to so produce many parts themselves. “We must consider whether we usefully apply some parts from suppliers, such as brake discs,” Winterkorn said. It will but in the Brunswick plant, in which the discs are manufactured, “another technically innovative product manufacture.”
