Even after strikers still significantly disrupted rail traffic – Reuters Germany

Berlin / Frankfurt (Reuters) – Even after the end of the train drivers’ strike train travelers should expect significant limitations.

The German Railway [DBN.UL] announced Wednesday morning immediately after the end of the Ausstands, particularly metropolitan areas such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart were significantly affected. Impairments admit it even in Schleswig-Holstein, North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. In the Regional and S-Bahn trains are likely to initially drive less often than usual. “In the long-distance transport continues to be expected with cancellations and delays. Impairments may have to take each day as it,” the company said.

The renewed strike by train drivers’ union GDL had lasted from Tuesday evening 21.00 clock (GMT) until Wednesday morning 06.00 clock. GDL chief Claus Weselsky described the action as a success. On the night of 80 to 90 percent of the trains had failed, he told ARD television. According to him, the union does not plan indefinite strike. “We are well aware of the responsibility and know that people are affected,” Weselsky said.

The GDL required in the labor dispute including five percent wage increase, shortening the working week to two to 37 hours and better shift schedules. The track guidance suggested last as long as exposure to the conflict until the announcement by the government law regulating the powers of divisional and major unions present. In the meantime, the engineer should receive two percent wage increase. This has however rejected the GDL.

ALSO IN LUFTHANSA is a strike

In air transport the pilots’ strike at Lufthansa Cargo, however ran into the void. The operation run normally, a company spokesman said this morning. “All cargo flights will start in spite of the strike., We expect only minimal impact on our customers.” Only two compounds were preferred.

The pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit had announced plans to strike against the freight subsidiary from 03:00 clock through to Thursday 22.30 clock. It carries among other electronic devices such as cell phones, medicine, exotic fruits and animals.

The Lufthansa was already on strike by the pilots this year five times. Cockpit fights against the plans of the Executive Committee for an expansion of low-cost offshoot, and is committed to the maintenance of the early retirement scheme for pilots. The Lufthansa sees because of the tough competition no longer able to finance the generous compared to the industry early retirement rules. The decrease in profits due to the strikes add up for Lufthansa so far at least 70 million euros.
