The Greeks will decide on July 5th in a referendum if the government in Athens to accept the austerity proposals received from the donors. This was announced by the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in a televised speech early Saturday morning. Tsipras had already informed President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and the main opposition party, the conservative New Democracy, as well as the creditors.
“The partners have us aufgeordert ultimatum to accept more austerity overload” Tsipras said. These measures would only cause a further contraction of the Greek economy.
“Some of the institutions and the partners have probably intend to humiliate an entire people,” Tsipras accused the donors. “Tomorrow (Saturday) will meet the Parliament to approve this referendum,” said Greek Prime Minister continued. “I will accept the result of your decision,” Tsipras said. Greece will on Saturday be proposed by a small extension of the current aid program.
In Brussels, the euro zone finance ministers on Saturday to come to a final attempt to save Greece before the national bankruptcy together. In the decisive meeting in Brussels, ministers want to agree with the Greek government on a reform and austerity. This is prerequisite for Greece so far gets blocked multibillion dollar aid.
Without an agreement in the months-long debt dispute with creditors threatening Greece that the country runs out of money and it can not repay its debt. Greece has to repay 1.6 billion euros debt by Tuesday at the International Monetary Fund. Since it can hardly afford this sum from its own resources, it relies on the 7.2 billion euros from the bailout.
