Verdi does not let up: An extension of the current wave of strikes during shipping retailer Amazon is under discussion. The union wants to unsettle the shipping giant and take in the Christmas season.
The strikes during shipping retailer Amazon might be continued at several locations in Germany. “Amazon can never be sure when and how long we go on strike,” said a spokeswoman Verdi in Berlin on Friday. After planning this week’s walkout in the logistics centers in Hesse, Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia was to end on Saturday night. “But you can never rule out anything,” she said. Verdi was committed at the location in Graben (Bavaria) early on a call to stop work up to and including Christmas Eve.
On Friday, the two logistics centers went on strike at Germany’s largest site in Bad Hersfeld , The camp in Leipzig, Rheinberg and Werne (both NRW) are included. According to Amazon boasts 1,000 employees involved in the early shift in the protests. Verdi called at noon no figures on participation, but spoke of an “uninterrupted high strike action” at the level of days earlier. On Thursday, there were six of nine distribution centers 2,400 employees by the unions, according to Amazon, there were less than 2,000. ‘/ P>
“We must increase the pressure on Amazon,” said the Verdi representatives Karsten Rupprecht on Friday morning in Rheinberg (NRW). Originally triggered on Monday strike wave should only take three days. The walkout was then but – apart from digging – extended until Saturday. Now another sequel seems possible. “We have become unpredictable,” said Rupprecht
. Continued in Leipzig not excluded
Do not be discouraged even the strikers in Leipzig. “The people are angry that Amazon small talk on strike. For this reason we will not let up, “said Verdi spokesman Thomas Schneider. In Leipzig, a sequel is not excluded. In the course of the day was to be decided whether the walkout would continue even on Saturday also.
Amazon reiterated that the strike on the smooth delivery of the orders have no effect. The company employs in the Christmas season in addition to some 10 000 employees again over 10 000 temporary employees. The union, however, provides evidence of abnormal operations on Amazon. “Customers tell us of delays in delivery. And our people see so, what are remains of deliveries at the sites. “
The union wants to impose a collective agreement on the terms of retailing on Amazon. Amazon refuses, strictly. The US company sees itself as a logistics. The payment of the employees in the German mail camps lie at the upper end of what is common in the logistics industry. An agreement is not in sight – Verdi calls since 2013 again and again to walkouts. (AP)
