The result was clear: In 91 percent of the valid ballots was a “yes” to strike, as the spokesperson of the German train drivers union (GDL) Gerda Seibert told in Frankfurt am Main. That was far more than the necessary approval of 75 percent. A strike date is not fixed yet by the unions.
In the hardened labor dispute GDL had twice been called for strikes and thus paralyzed large parts of the national railways. With the labor dispute, the union wants to enforce their demand for five per cent more money and shorter working hours.

Competing employee representatives
The GDL required not only for the 20,000 drivers, but also for 17,000 other employees, including train conductors, board restaurateurs, Lokrangierführer, coaches and dispatchers.
The GDL rivals it with the greater Railway and Transport union (ECG). GDL and ECG could not until the start of contract talks in August to agree on a collaboration. Railway but insists that both unions delimit at least, for which occupational groups are each collective political responsibility.
New offer of the Group
Shortly before counting of ballot had submitted a new offer the path of the GDL. Accordingly, the employer proposes to suspend negotiations until the federal government has brought the proposed law to the bargaining unit on the way. Until then, the train drivers should receive two percent more money, it said. In their offer the path of the GDL but only to approve, responsible for the train driver to negotiate and not for the other occupational groups.
