BER Airport: Terminal government comes only in 2022 – SPIEGEL ONLINE

State guests (BER) at the earliest in 2022 received at the future Capital Airport Berlin-Brandenburg in the new government Terminal – eleven years later than originally planned. This emerges from the current schedule of the operator. You go after several shifts from a start of the main airport in the second half of 2017.

“About five years after the BER-commissioning is the government airport pick up at its designated place its operation”, said the airport authority. Until then, the company needs the proposed location itself.

Because of the log area to be built before the existing Schönefeld airport building. Unlike originally planned, should this not be closed when the new airport in 2017 comes into operation. “We will use the old Schönefeld airport to about five years on the BER opening addition,” it says.

This is because the passenger numbers in Berlin rise faster than expected. The new airport, with its annual capacity of 27 million passengers already too small. Is extended to the new building, to take advantage of the adjacent old terminal part of the passengers.

For the political and parliamentary operations there should be an interim location at this time on the Schönefelder terrain. This is so far housed in Tegel, but there can be flown much longer – because the airport will close after current planning no later than the beginning of 2018.

The cost of the new Capital Airport currently total 5.34 billion euros. For extensions and lending rates 1.1 billion euros come added, as the airport operator tells in her new status report.
