Greece pays more rate from the IMF not back – SPIEGEL ONLINE

Greece is against the International Monetary Fund (IMF) even deeper in default: The overdue for Monday rate of 456 million euro did not respond, said IMF spokesman Gerry Rice with in Washington. This had been expected. The overdue sum from the Fund rose to over two billion euros.

Greece is just around the next big challenge in debt service. On Monday, a repayment of 3.5 billion euros at the European Central Bank (ECB) will be due.

In early July, Greece was the first industrialized country in the IMF in default. Athens was the deadline for a due installment of 1.5 billion euros to elapse. Earlier, Greece’s euro partners phase out their existing aid program for Athens, after negotiations on an extension had burst. As long as Athens is in default, the International Monetary Fund may not grant new grants. According to Rice, the IMF Executive Board will consider in the “coming weeks” on a Greek request to extend the deadline for repayment of the June rate.

In the recent Euro-special summit, the Greek Government failed in their suggestion, not to involve the IMF at a third rescue package. Also a number of other tough reform and austerity measures in return for new aid money in the tens of billions extent had the Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday at the end of a 17-hour accept marathon negotiations.
