German Railways checks closures in freight – 3,500 jobs at risk – SPIEGEL ONLINE

The German train apparently checked drastic cuts in freight transport. The state company is considering to close approximately 500 of the total of 1500 Güterverladestellen in Germany, consistently report the news agencies dpa and Reuters.

In order for the loss of about 3500 jobs would entail. This was presented to the Supervisory Board at its meeting in Berlin as one of several scenarios of the Board. A decision was however not taken.

A railway spokesperson said: “We are currently investigating far less than 500 railways stations.” Clear is also that “no one is unemployed, because there is a comprehensive collective agreement anchored protect employees while maintaining a high personnel requirements in other areas of the DB Group” the rail company.

The list of the words “omission” includes 498 loading points, the greater as Bamberg harbor with almost 200,000 tonnes or Saarbrücken marshalling yard with over 400,000 tonnes includes cargo handling. It applies therefore especially smaller like Ferch-Lienewitz in Brandenburg with 1,000 tons.

On Wednesday, the train will present its results for 2015. After SPIEGEL information, the web a loss of 150 million euros before interest and taxes – almost two billion euros poorer result than last year. It also is the first loss since of 2003.
