The chemical company BASF is considering, according to an agency report a bid for its US rival DuPont. The Ludwigshafen company is working with consultants and banks together to consider the advantages of a counter-offer, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
DuPont will actually go together with its domestic competitors Dow Chemical. The companies had announced the merger record in the industry in December. After the merger, the new group will, however, be split into three different companies. These should focus on the areas agricultural chemicals, plastics and specialty chemicals.A decision on a counter offer by BASF had not yet been taken, it was said in the circles on. So far, there have also been no formal approach to DuPont. A BASF spokeswoman wanted according to the report no comment.
BASF had expressed skepticism facing major acquisition in the industry a few days ago. “Not everything that is chic and large, necessarily create value,” CEO Kurt Bock said the end of February.
At DuPont investors the message already made once a good mood. In after-hours trading, the share price of the chemical company rose more than five percent. Dow Chemical Papers gained almost one percent.
