The Matterhorn attracts many tourists.
How much does the pass in S witzerland? Example Matterhorn: 79 franc does a day pass for the cable cars and lifts, which bring the skiers from Zermatt up to lofty heights. 79 francs, which were until recently converted 66 euros. That has also been a lot of wood. Meanwhile, however, are almost 79 francs 79 euros. After the Swiss National Bank (SNB) has unceremoniously thrown their exchange rate policy on the pile on Thursday and gave the Swiss franc free rein, the Swiss currency depreciated abruptly to strong. Briefly, the price had fallen off the years defended lower limit of 1.20 francs per euro up to 78 cents per euro. Later he leveled off at 1.03 francs per euro. On Friday, the franc continues almost cost one euro.
Part of the Swiss economy hits the the core. Especially in the tourism industry now begins the great trembling. Who spends his holidays in the Confederation, for many years has to shell out significantly more than in the neighboring countries of Austria, France and Italy, where also known to one or the other high mountain stands. In the local ski regions, an average day ski pass cost less than 50 euros. The prices in the hotels and restaurants are beyond the Swiss border significantly lower. For a main course in a local Swiss francs, more than 30 euros are quickly gone. In Austria the guest can easily beat full stomach for half of that amount.
“We are going to have to bite hard”
“We are now hard to bite,” says Barbara Gisi, director of the Swiss Tourist Board. She fears that now have to give up some hotel companies, especially in the travel regions who live much of foreigners. They estimate that the postings in this winter season could fall by a double-digit percentage. This of course also the lack of snow early in the season plays a role.

The Association boss makes no illusions about what this means: “Now it’s even more fun to go to Austria.” She hopes that now not even the Swiss to abscond. Now, the Swiss is indeed proud of his country. But when it comes to the money, love of country has its limits. This impression is mediated, at least those who straightway spending spree after the release of the exchange rate in Euros. Before several ATMs and bureaux de change were formed long queues on Thursday, in some places even went the Euro-notes.
It is thus clear that the Swiss will compete against each other in the border shops in Germany on his feet this Saturday. Peter Herrmann, Center Manager at Constance Lago shopping center, calculated on the weekend with about 10 per cent more customers. He feels reminiscent of 2011, when the franc-euro exchange rate even at one stood briefly to one.
“Then suddenly die Confederates came to us.”1
