WASHINGTON (AFX) – the former French finance Minister Christine Lagarde is facing a second term at the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). There is no rival candidate, said an IMF spokeswoman German Press Agency. The deadline for nominations had expired on 10 February. Lagarde’s first term ends on 5 July. The final appointment for a second term to be completed by the beginning of March.

The French had in their nomination supported by the German Federal Government. “Ms Lagarde was in the difficult times after the financial crisis a prudent and successful crisis manager who has contributed significantly to the high reputation of the IMF”, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Finance in Berlin.

Lagarde stands as executive director since 2011 the institution against which helps with their loans, especially highly indebted countries from financial bottlenecks.
