Lagarde for second term selected as IMF chief – Reuters Germany

Paris Christine Lagarde remains head of the International Monetary Fund.

The Board decided to re-elect the former French finance minister by consensus, the IMF said on Friday. There were no opposing candidates. Lagarde is the first woman to head the global financial organization. She held the post in 2011 taken after her compatriot Dominique Strauss-Kahn was forced to resign because of a sex scandal. Her first five-year term ends on July 4.

Lagarde had announced in January that they antrete for a second term. Germany, like many other countries – including the US, Japan, Britain, France, and China and other emerging markets – supported this step. Russia also had placed himself behind Lagarde and declares the Frenchwoman had proved successful leader in a difficult time for the global economy and the IMF itself.
