Santander / Madrid (APA / dpa) – After the death of Emilio Botin, the Spanish banking giant Santander has appointed the daughter of longtime chef, Ana Patricia Botin to the new President. A proposal of the Appointments Committee of the Bank was approved unanimously by the Board on Wednesday, said the financial institution of the Financial CNMV in Madrid.
The 54-year-old Ana Botin most recently served as Country Manager of Banco Santander in the UK.
Emilio Botin had died in the early hours of Wednesday at the age of 79 years. He died at his home in Madrid of a heart attack. Botin had stood since 1986 at the head of Santander and made the former regional bank one of the largest institutions in the world.
